Alumnus Richard Allman recalls a career in the technical side of show business
Jun 13 2011When I graduated from Wayne State University in 1960 with a degree in electrical engineering, I went to numerous job interviews, but nobody wanted to hire me. I guess that was because of my rather odd resume (and my mediocre grades). I had spent more time working at the WSU television center and Wayne University Theater than I did studying. However, I was eventually able to make a career out of both my engineering education and my love of theater. My mother was a radio actress for many years.

Message from the EAA President
May 11 2011Dear Alumni and Friends, 2011 has been a year of changes for the Engineering Alumni Association (EAA) and its members. Our initial fundraising effort for this academic year supported the Night of

Alumnus Marshall Kaplan began successful aerospace career at WSU
May 9 2011In 1979, Marshall Kaplan, BSAeroE’62, became an overnight celebrity when he received a grant from NASA to figure out how to bring Skylab, the 84-ton space station that had been launched in 1973, back to Earth safely. “For the next six months I was interviewed at least once a day, appeared on national television, testified before Congress and was the subject of many national and international news articles,” says Kaplan, who was then a professor of aerospace engineering at
Alumnus Frank Green recalls his time at Wayne University 5 years ago
May 9 2011When Frank Green, BSEE’46, graduated from Wayne University, it was no more than Old Main and a couple of classrooms in nearby apartment buildings. Green was among nine engineering graduates. The small class size would soon surge as the G.I. Bill brought many more students to campus.
Green, a native of Detroit, had enrolled as a sophomore in February 1944 after attending the Detroit Institute of Technology for a year. He completed his degree at Wayne in a little more than two years.
Alumnus Michael Cynecki remembers his time in the WSU marching band
May 9 2011Michael Cynecki, BSCE’78, MSCE’79, remembers two things most clearly about his years in the Wayne State University Marching Band: He had a great time. And he was almost always cold.
It’s no wonder Cynecki has lived in Phoenix, Ariz., for the last 25 years, where he works as traffic engineering supervisor for the City of Phoenix.
“I remember playing during the Detroit Lions’ half-time show on Thanksgiving and worrying about my lips freezing to the
